The overall Board shall be responsible for executing the agenda and policies of NAPA during the process. All applicants must meet the following requirements to be eligible for candidacy: • Must be a member of a current NAPA member organization • Must be an alumna/alumnus in good standing, preferably a member who is 4 years post-graduation The elected roles will fulfill the following duties and responsibilities: Executive Vice Chair, 2025-2027 As Executive Vice Chair, you work closely with the Executive Board on the strategic planning of NAPA and the advancement of the AAGLO fraternal movement. The Vice Chair of Finance maintains the NAPA budget, maintains non-profit status, and provides development opportunities for NAPA. Duties and Responsibilities • Sets the strategic direction of NAPA with the Executive Board. • Oversees and manages NAPA finances. • Develops a public annual report. • Works closely with the Board to develop an annual budget for the association. • Helps maintain 501(c)(3) status and appropriate documents. • Keeps organized, detailed records of all finance documents, projects, and documents. • Develops initiatives as needed. Sonja Serrano is a Spring 2017 initiate of Delta Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. at Georgia State University. She has been appointed to the role of Director of Technology on the NAPA Board. “My Goal is to enhance NAPA’s technological infrastructure to better support our member organizations, jumpstart initiatives, and amplify our collective impact,” says Serrano. She is a Project Manager and Certified Scrum Master, leveraging a decade of concurrent experience overseeing diverse projects across technology, cybersecurity, marketing, and legal sectors. She is set to graduate with an MBA, specializing in Project Management this Fall from the University of North Alabama. Serrano also currently serves as the Director of Communications for Delta Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. Renee Chau is a Fall 2023 initiate of Delta Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. AAARI CUNY Symposium Highlights Legacy and Influence of Asian American Greek-Letter Organizations New York, NY – The Asian American / Asian Research Institute (AAARI) at the City University of New York held its anticipated symposium on May 17th, 2024. This year’s theme focuses on “Interrogating AAPI identities: intersectional scholarship, organizing, and transformative solidarities.” NAPA presented the evolving role and historical significance of Asian American Greek-Letter Organizations (AAGLOs). This event, featuring work from experts such as Dr. Bryan Dosono, Dr. Bilal Badruddin, Clifford Temprosa, and Elizabeth Kwong, provided a platform to explore the intertwined narratives of belonging, cultural identity, and community engagement among members of the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) community. Tracing back to the early 20th century, AAGLOs were established as a response to the systemic exclusion and racial discrimination faced by Asian students on predominantly white campuses (PWIs). Panelists discussed how AAGLOs have transformed over decades into influential bodies that advocate for APIDA communities. The creation of the National Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Panhellenic Association (NAPA) in the 21st century signals this evolution, amplifying collective voices for civic engagement and community-building initiatives such as voter registration with APIAVote. Dr. Badruddin shared his dissertation research on the connectedness among South Asian members at Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPISIs). His research highlights the correlation between ethnic affinity and a sense of belonging among these students, addressing gaps in research related to their cultural and social integration. The findings underscore the importance of AAGLOs as identity-affirming spaces that support both personal and academic growth for Desi/South Asian members. Dr. Dosono’s dissertation research into digital identity work among Asian Americans on platforms like Reddit further illustrated the challenges and strategies for preserving collective narratives. This includes confronting disruptions that threaten identity discourse and developing alternative archives to safeguard cultural stories from systemic erasure. The symposium concluded with a call for increased collaboration between student bodies and AAGLOs. Recommendations included joint programming that meets chapter accreditation requirements, shared funding efforts, and cooperative outreach for philanthropic projects. Panelists stressed that partnerships fostered through these organizations build enduring community ties, amplifying advocacy and support for the broader APIDA population. The AAARI at CUNY serves as a vital space for scholarship on Asian American topics, while NAPA represents a coalition advocating for APIDA communities nationwide. All three officers have previously served NAPA in various roles including Dosono as the former Director of Research and Development, Vinzons as the former Director of Technology, and McGlynn as the former Director of Councils. Dosono is a Fall 2008 initiate of Lambda Phi Epsilon Fraternity, Inc. at the University of Washington. “My leadership team and I aim to cultivate thoughtful investments that ensure our community’s expertise expands and deepens to fulfill the needs of our APIDA organizations and the broader fraternal movement for the next 20 years and beyond,” says Dosono. He leads research in the consumer technology space. He concurrently serves as a Trustee on the Lambda Phi Epsilon Foundation and was a former International President of Lambda Phi Epsilon. Vinzons is a Fall 2014 initiate of Kappa Pi Beta Fraternity, Inc. at the University of Illinois at Chicago. “I was inspired by other leaders to contribute to the empowerment of the Asian American community, and I want for NAPA to continue this legacy, making a meaningful impact on future generations,” says Vinzons. He is a lead software developer in the auto insurance industry and serves as the Chair of Kappa Pi Beta’s Board of Directors. McGlynn is a Spring 2012 initiate of Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority, Inc. at the State University of New York College at Geneseo. “Giving NAPA a very visible position on college campuses allows us to teach a wider audience of fraternity and sorority life advisors and students about how we are a major part of the APIDA college experience,” says McGlynn. She is a market analysis manager in the financial services space and serves as the National President of Sigma Psi Zeta. The newly elected officers’ two-year term on the NAPA Executive Board began at the conclusion of the NAPA Annual Meeting on December 3rd, 2023.
